First Presbyterian Church offering ‘Ashes to Go’ on Feb. 14
ELKHART — First Presbyterian Church is continuing its tradition of offering “Ashes to Go” to anyone in the community.
The period of Lent — the Christian observance leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday — begins with Ash Wednesday, which falls on Wednesday, Feb. 14, this year.
The First Presbyterian drive-though devotional experience is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at the church tower portico. The church is at 200 E. Beardsley Ave. in Elkhart.
Participants can remain in their cars while receiving the sign of the cross in ashes, a tradition to mark the beginning of Lent — a time of prayer and reflection.
The ashes remind us that we are dust and need to turn to God and ask for God’s creative power to heal the brokenness in our lives and make us new.
“Ashes to Go” is led by the Rev. Dr. Sally Wicks, First Presbyterian pastor.
“We’re offering this observance to the whole community on Ash Wednesday because we want to share the blessing of this day with everyone,” Wicks said. “We all need God’s healing power all day, every day.”
