UK harpist playing free concert Tuesday at CBC

British classical harpist Claire Jones will perform a free concert open to the public at 7 p.m. on April 9 in the sanctuary at Culpeper Baptist Church.

Performing at the Royal Wedding for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is among her career highlights as well as appearances with the English Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir James Galway; Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Bryn Terfel, and Alfie Bow.

Jones has performed at Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall in London, Capitol Hill in the U.S., City Hall in Hong Kong, International Harp Festival in Brazil and at Millennium Stadium for an audience of 75,000.

She has topped the classical charts with her albums ‘Girl with the Golden Harp,’ ‘Journey,’ ‘Highrove Suite,’ and ‘This Love.’

Just recently, Jones was honored to perform for His Majesty, King Charles, III and the Queen Consort when they visited the Senedd in Cardiff. Flea market upcoming in May at CUMC

The Betty Newhouse Circle Flea Market will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 in the parking lot at Culpeper United Methodist Church, located on Oaklawn Drive. Interested in reserving a space? Call 540/547-2627.

Amissville United Methodist country breakfast

Amissville United Methodist holds Adult Sunday School at 9 a.m. in the social hall of the church, located at 14760 Lee Highway. Sunday service is at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Zoom and livestream services are also available.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Bible Study with Frank Fishback is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, both in the social hall.

A United Methodist Women’s business meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in the social hall.

United Methodist Men will serve up a community breakfast 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 in the church social hall.

Grief and loss support group at local library

Culpeper Baptist Church is sponsoring a confidential, no-commitment grief and loss support group at 6 p.m. every Tuesday through April 16, in the Culpeper County Library conference room.

“Are you grieving the death of a loved one or friend? Do you long for a safe and welcoming place where you can find comfort and understanding as you move through your grief? Let us walk with you through this difficult time as you find healing and hope while learning helpful ways of dealing with your grief and the changes that come as a result. You’ll connect with folks who understand your pain and can encourage you as you heal,” according to a church release.

Need of the Week: breakfast foods

The Culpeper Food Closet is a community outreach ministry created and supported by St. Stephens Episcopal Church. They depend on donations of food and personal items, as well as financial support from the community.

Every week, the food closet posts a few items they need, but any donation is gratefully accepted. The needs this week are breakfast foods: individual oatmeal packets, Pop Tarts, cold cereal, granola bars and canned fruit.

Community church hosts three Sunday morning services

Mountain View Community Church holds a trio of Sunday morning services — at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. — at the Culpeper campus, located at 16088 Rogers Road.

Children’s programs for babies-4th grade, Loop (5th and 6th grade) and Surge (7th and 8th grade) available at all services. Listen to the 10 a.m. service at mountainviewcc.net or mountainviewcc on Facebook.

Spring children’s clothing consignment sale

The Spring Children’s Consignment Sale at Epiphany Catholic School will be held April 12-13, in the school gym, at 1211 Grandview Ave. in Culpeper.

Consignor drop-off will take place April 8-10, with a preview sale for volunteers on April 11. The public sale will take place 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 13.

Half off select items will be offered 1-3 p.m. on Saturday; the sale will be closed 12:30-1 p.m. for set up.
