CUMC hosts Rockwater Park egg hunt

Culpeper United Methodist Church is excited to host a safe, free and fun egg hunting experience with its neighbors. All are invited to join a community wide egg hunt at Rockwater Park on Wednesday, March 27.

All are welcome — children ages 4 and under will hunt eggs at 5:35 p.m. and children ages 5 and over will hunt eggs shortly after. Overflow parking is available in the State Farm-John Willett parking lot beside the park as well as the church parking lot.

Way of the Cross Prayer Walk today

The churches of downtown Culpeper will gather again this Easter season for the annual Way of the Cross Prayer Walk, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, at Precious Blood Catholic Church.

In preparation for the holy day, join people across the Culpeper community to trace Christ’s journey to the cross. This annual tradition is a reenactment to honor the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, according to a release.

Twelve local churches are participating, beginning at Precious Blood, traversing historic downtown and concluding at Culpeper United Methodist Church, on Oaklawn Drive. For ease of transportation, walkers can feel free to park at Culpeper United Methodist Church and take a shuttle to Precious Blood. Shuttles will begin running at 8:15 a.m.

Easter Services, egg hunt at Alum Spring

Easter season services at Alum Spring Baptist include Palm Sunday worship on March 24 and, on March 28, Maundy Thursday with communion at 6:30 p.m.

On March 31, Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. and Easter worship and a children’s activity at 9:30 a.m., including an Easter egg hunt. The church is located at 11058 Dutch Hollow Road in Culpeper. Questions? Contact 540/825-3820 or

Sunrise Service at Antioch Madison on Easter

Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7:30 a.m. on March 31, at Antioch Baptist Church of Madison. Breakfast will be served following the service.

Easter service at Ebenezer Baptist of Lignum

Ebenezer Baptist Church of Lignum invites the community to its Easter Service at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 31.

Pastor Douglas T. Greene Sr. will be bringing forth the resurrection message. There will be no 11 a.m. service. Come and make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Games, prizes, movie and egg hunt at Easter celebration

Hopewell United Methodist Church of Lignum will host an Easter celebration from 1-3 p.m., on Saturday, March 30, at the church, located at 23557 Lignum Road in Culpeper County. There will be various games, prizes, a movie, snacks, music, crafts and an egg hunt.

Good Friday, Maundy Thursday services in Amissville

Amissville United Methodist holds Adult Sunday School at 9 a.m. in the social hall of the church, located at 14760 Lee Highway. Sunday service is at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Zoom and livestream services are also available.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Bible Study with Frank Fishback is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, both in the social hall.

Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 7 p.m., March 28, in the sanctuary. A Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. on March 29.

Easter at Unity Baptist Church in town

Unity Baptist will be having Easter service at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 31 at the church, located at 128 W. Culpeper St. in Culpeper.

“Come join us as we give all glory to the Lord,” according to a church release.

Pastor Uzziah Harris will be rendering service. ALL are welcomed. Donuts and coffee will be served afterwards.

Egg hunt, Easter services at Oakland Baptist

Oakland Baptist will hold a community Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 30, at the church, located at 28348 Eley’s Ford Road in Richardsville. There will be games, prizes and refreshments. Children, teens and adults are welcome.

A Community Easter Sunrise Service at Oakland Baptist Church will be held at 6:30 a.m. on March 31.

Following the service will be a time of food and fellowship at the Richardsville firehouse. Please feel free to bring a breakfast food to share.

5th Saturday Open Mic season opens March 30

A Rapidan tradition now in its 15th year, the 5th Saturday Open Mic & Jam will continue for another season at Waddell Memorial Presbyterian.

Drumroll, please. The new season starts March 30 and will also be held June 29 and Aug. 31, featuring an open mic at the church, located at 7133 Rapidan Road.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a potluck supper (bring a covered dish) and music starting at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Gospel, bluegrass, favorites — it’s the musician’s choice. Everyone can bring their instruments, play and sing or just listen and enjoy.

Grief and loss support group at local library

Culpeper Baptist Church is sponsoring a confidential, no-commitment grief and loss support group at 6 p.m. every Tuesday through April 16, in the Culpeper County Library conference room.

“Are you grieving the death of a loved one or friend? Do you long for a safe and welcoming place where you can find comfort and understanding as you move through your grief? Let us walk with you through this difficult time as you find healing and hope while learning helpful ways of dealing with your grief and the changes that come as a result. You’ll connect with folks who understand your pain and can encourage you as you heal,” according to a church release.

Need of the Week: personal care items

The Culpeper Food Closet is a community outreach ministry created and supported by St. Stephens Episcopal Church. They depend on donations of food and personal items, as well as financial support from the community.

Every week, the food closet posts a few items they need, but any donation is gratefully accepted. The needs this week are personal care items: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.

Sermon: Three Days and Denials — Close Not Committed

Mountain View Community Church is now holding a trio of Sunday morning services — at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. — at the Culpeper campus, located at 16088 Rogers Road.

The sermon topic for Sunday is “Three Days and Denials: Close Not Committed.”

Children’s programs for babies-pre-K are offered at the 8:30 a.m. service only while 4th grade, Loop (5th and 6th grade) and Surge (7th and 8th grade) programs are offered at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Listen to the 10 a.m. service at or mountainviewcc on Facebook.

Song Maker Series concert in Charlottesville

Focus Music, The Song Maker Series and Unity Church present Joe Jencks and Jesse Palidofsky in concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the church, located on Hydraulic Road in Charlottesville.

Jencks is an international touring musician, award-winning songwriter and celebrated vocalist known for his performances of musical beauty, social consciousness and spiritual exploration, according to a release. Opening will be Jesse Palidofsky, a one-man band on piano, guitar, harmonica and vocals.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
