Revanth Reddy accuses BJP of exploiting religion for political gains

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A Revanth Reddy accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to win elections by using religion as a tool to divide people.

Revanth Reddy addressed a road show after Congress candidate Danam Nagender filed his nomination papers from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday.

He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of cheating the unemployed and farmers, questioning the unfulfilled promise of creating two crore jobs yearly and doubling the farmers’ income by 2022. He expressed concerns about Modi’s strategy of creating religious divisions to avoid electoral defeat, emphasising that religious harmony had flourished during Congress rule. He slammed Modi for spreading falsehoods and hatred, stating that God should be in the temple and devotion should be in the heart.

Criticising BRS, he alleged that the main opposition party had fielded weak candidates to ensure the success of BJP candidates with the motive of securing bail for BRS MLC K. Kavitha in the Delhi Liquor scam case. He questioned why neither former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao nor his son K Tarakarama Rao was present during the submission of the nomination of BRS candidate Padma Rao Goud. He said that a vote for BRS would prove a vote for the BJP.

Revanth Reddy stated that whichever party wins the Secunderabad constituency would likely form the government at the Centre. He said Anjan Kumar Yadav secured victory in Secunderabad in 2004, and Congress formed the government at the Centre. He predicted a similar outcome in the upcoming elections, with Congress set to retake the reins at the Centre.

He questioned the contribution of Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy in the development of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad constituency. He said that when the city witnessed floods, despite being a Union Minister, Kishan Reddy did nothing. He said that if Danam Nagender wins as MP, he could be appointed as a Union Minister in a Congress government, thereby helping to bring more development to the region.

Revanth Reddy also touched upon Hyderabad’s infrastructure, citing Congress’s role in bringing Krishna and Godavari River waters to the city and developing the Metro Rail system in the twin cities.

The Chief Minister called upon the voters to support Danam Nagender in Secunderabad and ensure his victory with a majority of one lakh votes.

Revanth Reddy reassured the people that the Congress government would continue to focus on developing Hyderabad and supporting the welfare of all its residents, particularly those in slums.
