(KRON)—On Saturday, San Francisco Mayor London Breed will be heading to China. The multi-city trip is an opportunity to meet with Chinese businesses, airlines, and local leaders for one week in hopes of bridging new businesses to San Francisco and expanding the city’s tourism market, the mayor’s office said on Wednesday.
The invitation was extended to Breed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Consulate. The invitation was made as a reply to the mayor’s invitation to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) last year in November, the mayor’s office said.
Breed will visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. The mayor is attempting to bring businesses to specific downtown areas such as Chinatown, Richmond, and the Sunset District. The mayor’s office said she will return on April 21.
While in Guangzhou, the Mayor will meet with various Chinese-based businesses, such as CVTE. According to CVTE’s website, “the company has been mainly engaged in the design, development and sales of display control products such as LCD main control boards and intelligent interactive tablets.”
The mayor will also meet with AmCham China, the American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China, which comprises tens of thousands of members from nearly 1,000 companies operating in China.
Business ventures aside, the mayor will also be working on her 30 by 30 plan – adding 30,000 more residents and students to San Francisco’s Downtown by 2030. In Shanghai, Mayor Breed will visit with leadership and staff at Fudan University, a leading research university based in Shanghai.
This trip also marks the 45th anniversary of the San Francisco-Shanghai sister city relationship, which was the first established U.S.-China sister city relationship.
