Papmochani Ekadashi 2024: Papmochani Ekadashi holds an immense religious significance in Hindu religion. This Ekadashi considered as the most sacred Ekadashi as it removes all the sins committed by the devotees. Papmochani Ekadashi fast will be observed on Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra i.e., on April 5, 2024.

Papmochani Ekadashi 2024: Significance
Papmochani Ekadashi holds a great religious and significance among Hindus.

Papmochani is the combination of two words, Paap and Mochani, Paap means sin, and Mochani means the removal of sins. The day is dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. Ekadashi occurs on 11th day of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha, and this time Papmochani Ekadashi will fall during Krishna Paksha. Devotees perform this fast to seek blessings of Lord Vishnu and also to remove their past birth sins which they have committed knowingly or unknowingly and this Papmochani Ekadashi observance is mainly for the people, who wants to get rid of their past committed sins.

Papmochani Ekadahsi 2024: Story
The significance of this vrat was explained to King Yudhishthira by Lord Krishna himself and can be found in the Bhavishyottara Purana. According to the legend, sage Medhavi was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and used to perform strict meditations in the forest of Chaitraratha. Once the apsara “Manjughosa” tried to seduce sage Medhavi but was unsuccessful in her attempt due to the power of the sage’s sobriety. Manjughosa became restless and started singing seductively, Lord Kamdev became exicted and drew Medhavi’s attention towards Manughosha through his powerful magical bows.

Sage Medhavi lost his purity of mind and later got married. After a couple of years Manjughosa lost her interest in the sage and decided to abandon him. For which the sage felt cheated and cursed her to become an ugly witch. Sage Medhavi later returned to his father Sage Chyavana’s ashram and observed a fast on Papamochani Ekadashi, upon his father’s recommendation. Sage Chyavana assured sage Medhavi that his sins be removed by observing fast on this day. Medhavi observed the fast and got relieved from the sins. Manjughosha also observed the Papmochani Ekadashi fast and regretted her wrong deeds. She was also relieved from her sin.
Papmochani Ekadashi 2024: Puja Vidhi
1. Wake up early in the morning and take a bath before starting puja rituals.
2. Clean the house and especially puja room where you want to set up the altar.
3. Place an idol of Lord Vishnu and Shree Yantra as a symbol of Goddess Laxmi.
4. Light a diya with desi ghee and put tilak first.
5. Offer yellow flower garland and offer Tulsi Dal.
6. Recite the Vrat Katha and chant various mantra dedicated to Lord Vishnu and we have mentioned few mantras in the end of this article.
7. In the evening, one must offer bhog prasad and recite Lord Vishnu aarti.
8. People wo are unable to observe strict fast, they can eat milk products and other sattvik food.
