Children’s clothing consignment sale today

The Spring Children’s Consignment Sale at Epiphany Catholic School will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the school gym, at 1211 Grandview Ave. in Culpeper. Half off select items will be offered 1-3 p.m. on Saturday; the sale will be closed 12:30-1 p.m. for set up.

Sanctus Real Sunday concert sold out

The UnReal Tour featuring Unspoken, Sanctus Real and JJ Weeks comes to Culpeper this Sunday evening for a sold out concert. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts at 7, at Culpeper Baptist Church.

Winner of the Dove Award for Modern Rock Album of the Year, Grammy-nominated Sanctus Real is a Christian rock band from Toledo, Ohio, with members, Chris Rohman (lead guitar), Mark Graalman (drums) and Dustin Lolli (lead vocals).

The band is best known for their number one singles “Lead Me,” “Forgiven,” “Whatever You’re Doing,” “I’m Not Alright,” “Don’t Give Up,” “We Need Each Other,” “Everything About You” and “The Fight Song.”

Spring revival in April at Beulah Baptist

Beulah Baptist extends an invitation to everyone to its upcoming Spring Revival events at 7 p.m. on April 17 and April 24 at the church, located at 9297 Eggbornsville Road in Culpeper.

The guest preacher on April 17 will be Pastor Brevetta Jordan from First Baptist Church in Washington, Virginia. The guest preacher for April 24 will be Dr. Tracey Holley from Mount Olive Baptist Church in Culpeper.

Hopewell hosting movie night in Lignum

Hopewell United Methodist will be screening, “Wonka,” Rated PG, at 7 p.m. tonight at the church, located at 23518 Lignum Road in Culpeper County. Everyone is welcome.

Amissville United Methodist country breakfast

Amissville United Methodist holds Adult Sunday School at 9 a.m. in the social hall of the church, located at 14760 Lee Highway. Sunday service is at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Zoom and livestream services are also available.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Bible Study with Frank Fishback is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, both in the social hall.

United Methodist Men will serve up a community breakfast from 8-10 a.m. today in the church social hall.

Charlottesville sermon series focuses on Revelations

Local pastor William Bray of Elim International Church will begin a two-part sermon series this weekend entitled, “Jesus Christ: Either Your Spiritual Savior or Your Judge.”

Part one, focusing on salvation for believers in Jesus, is this Sunday, April 14, and Part two, on Christ’s eternal judgement will conclude the series on April 28. Both services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church auditorium, located at 1675 Avon St. Ext., in Charlottesville. The principle scripture text for both Sundays is found in Revelation 21:1-8.

Bray, 77, is a retired foreign correspondent and grounds minister at the University of Virginia. He is the national director of the Overseas Students Mission, founded by UVA alum Bob Finley in 1953. He is the English language pastor of Elim Church. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and relocated to Charlottesville in 1991.

Religious liberty exhibit at Culpeper museum

The quest for religious freedom in America and guaranteeing the right to worship in the way of one’s choosing was a revolutionary idea — an idea in which Virginia played an important role.

A new exhibit at the Museum of Culpeper History, developed and installed by Culpeper Baptist Church, tells the story of the role played by Baptist missionaries here in the country’s struggle for religious freedom. Learn about this important event and the other ways in which Culpeper Baptist has supported the community in its 250 years of ministry and service.

“See what it was all about as we enter America 250: the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution.”

Joni Tada to speak at Liberty U convocation

Joni Eareckson Tada will be the special guest on April 19 for convocation at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

She founder and chief executive officer of Joni and Friends, an international organization communicating the gospel and equipping churches worldwide to evangelize and disciple people affected by disabilities, according to a college release.

Although a 1967 diving accident in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland left her a quadriplegic at the age of 17, Tada emerged from rehabilitation with a determination to help others with similar disabilities, her lifelong work.

Randall Wallace, screenwriter and film director (“Braveheart,” “Pearl Harbor”) will be the special guest for the convocation on April 24 and, on April 26, Liberty University President Dondi Costin.

Convocation is held at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday. Most are streamed live on Liberty’s YouTube channel, Liberty’s main Facebook page and the Office of Spiritual Development Facebook page.

Convocation at the Vines Center remains the largest weekly gathering of Christian students in the world, featuring powerful worship, prayer and inspirational speakers.

Need of the Week: personal care items

The Culpeper Food Closet is a community outreach ministry created and supported by St. Stephens Episcopal Church. They depend on donations of food and personal items, as well as financial support from the community.

Every week, the food closet posts a few items they need, but any donation is gratefully accepted. The needs this week are personal care items: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.

Shiloh Food distribution in Brandy Station

The Food Ministry at Shiloh Baptist in Brandy Station will be hosting its monthly food distribution from 9-11 a.m. today at the church, located at 15055 Stevensburg Road in Culpeper County.

“If you or someone you know are in need of supplemental food, we welcome you,” according to a church release.

Mission trip celebration service and potluck

New Salem Baptist will hold a celebration service and potluck at 4 p.m. on Sunday to hear testimonies from Hope in Appalachia missionaries about their spring trip to Kentucky. Bring a friend and a dish to share. The church is located at 8233 Sperryville Pike in Culpeper.

National Day of Prayer is next monthA local observance of the 72nd Annual Day of Prayer will be held at noon on May 2, in the courtyard of the Culpeper County Courthouse on West Davis Street. The theme is, “Lift up the word. Light up the world.”

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, according to nationaldayofprayer.org.

Sermon: “By Faith—It’s Not a Sprint”

Mountain View Community Church holds a trio of Sunday morning services — at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. — at the Culpeper campus, located at 16088 Rogers Road. The sermon topic for Sunday is, “By Faith: It’s Not A Sprint.”

Children’s programs are available for babies-4th grade at the 8:30 a.m. service only. Loop (5th and 6th grade) and Surge (7th and 8th grade) are available at the 10 and 11:30 a.m. services.
