'Stabbed Ambedkar in the back': PM Modi slams Congress over religion-based reservation – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister

Narendra Modi

on Wednesday accused

Congress

of “stabbing Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in the back” by giving reservations based on religion.
Addressing a election rally in Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi said, “Congress provided

reservation

on the basis of religion in 2004, stabbing Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, architect of the Constitution, in the back.”
“Our Constitution clearly says that no one will be given reservation on the basis of religion.

Babasaheb Ambedkar himself was against reservation on the basis of religion. But Congress made a dangerous resolution of (providing) reservation on the basis of religion years ago. It is adopting various tactics to fulfil the resolution,” he said.
The Prime Minsiter also accused Congress of reducing the quota for the OBCs in Karnataka by putting Muslim castes in the same category, and claimed that it plans to replicate this across the country.

Speaking at an election rally in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, he dubbed the opposition party as the “biggest enemy of the OBCs”.
“Once again, Congress has given reservation on the basis of religion in Karnataka through backdoor by putting all Muslim castes along with the OBCs. By doing so, it has snatched a big chunk of reservation from the OBC community. Congress indulged in this dangerous game which will destroy your (future) generations. It is the biggest enemy of the OBCs,” the Prime Minister said lashing out at the Congress.

“Elections will come and go, but this dangerous game of snatching reservations of OBCs, Dalits and

tribals

should be ended,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister claimed that the opposition party hates the Constitution as well as the ‘identity of India’, and that was why it was doing everything that ‘weakens the country and its credibility’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also targeted the Congress party over Sam Pitroda’s remarks on inheritance tax law, claiming that the grand old party wants to take away the rights of people’s children.
During an election rally in Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi said, “The wealth you have saved by working hard and enduring hardship will be looted after the formation of the Congress government”.
Earlier, addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh, PM had said, “The property you have accumulated through your hard work will not be given to your children. The claws of Congress will snatch that too from you. The mantra of Congress is- Congress ki loot zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi. The same people who considered the entire Congress Party as ancestral property and gave it to their children, do not want an ordinary Indian to give his property to his children.”
PM Modi’s remarks come in the backdrop of backlash over comments made by Sam Pitroda, the Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress, who discussed the concept of inheritance tax prevailing in America and emphasized the need for policy toward wealth redistribution.
